Exhibit Label This pocket is another example of a functional object that can be stylized or decorated to fit the wearer’s taste or express their creativity. Many English pockets were inscribed with inspirational or thought-provoking quotes. This one includes a band that reads “Time overcomes all things.” There is also a date of 1731 knit into the piece. Silk production was not readily available in the United States at that time, so this pocket was likely brought over by an immigrant, or sent to a friend or family member in the Colonies. This pocket was made of stockinette stitch in alternating colors to create a decorative pattern.
