Exhibit Label While this dress, likely made in the 1910s, gives the appearance of being light and airy compared to dresses from the 18th century, it would still have been worn with a corset to create a barrel-like silhouette for the wearer. Consisting of several different layers of fabrics, it is primarily constructed of a silk satin sheath with attached lace at the collar and hem, and draping layers of silk gauze around the sheath, ending in an asymmetrical hemline. An attached belt of woven metallic threads adds to the draped, free-form silhouette, with a dropped waistline - a contrast with the 1830s green silk bodice.
