Exhibit Label A late 19th century American evolution of the “miser’s purse,” this crochet and beaded purse has an intricate latticed opening that relies on the many crocheted threads connecting to the center ring. The ring itself could either be looped onto a belt or worn on the finger with the purse carried in the palm for extra protection. Purses of this style, due to their novelty of design and durable construction, are still on the market and used for both collections and reenactments by Civil War-era fashion enthusiasts.
